How BoatRoute IQ plans a route

Tell us about your boat, pick a route mode, tap a start and destination on the map. We check depth, tide, hazards, no-go zones, fuel, and exposure. Then you export to your chartplotter.

1. Add your boat

Draft, beam, fuel burn, cruise speed, preferred minimum depth, and safety margin.

2. Plan the route

Tap start and destination, set tide, pick a route mode. See warnings live.

3. Export to plotter

Save the route. Export a GPX file for Garmin, Navionics, Raymarine, Simrad, Lowrance, B&G, or Furuno.

Route modes for the way you actually run.

Pick the mode that matches the trip. Each mode adjusts warnings, fuel reserve, and routing preference. The captain is always in control.

Safe Family Route

Conservative depths, marked channels, more warnings.

Fast Route

Shortest line that still passes depth and hazard checks.

Local Shortcut

Use approved tracks and known cuts when the tide allows.

Sandbar Route

Plan up to the bar, then switch to manual approach.

Gulf Run

Offshore exposure, fuel reserve, return-leg planning.

Marina Route

Plan to marinas, ramps, fuel docks, and waterfront stops.

Manual Route

Draw point by point and read live warnings.

Explore Mode

Tap around and see what's nearby.

Export to your chartplotter.

Save the route, click export, pick your brand. We generate a valid GPX 1.1 file with proper metadata for Garmin ActiveCaptain, Navionics Boating, Raymarine LightHouse, Simrad NSS/NSO, Lowrance HDS, B&G Zeus, or Furuno TZtouch.

  • • Routes as GPX routes
  • • Waypoints, hazards, marinas, fuel docks as GPX waypoints
  • • Safe filenames, escaped XML, vendor-specific creator tag
  • • Generic GPX always available
